Starting from March 2013, APU has worked in collaboration with EMC to include the EMC modules as part of its undergraduate curriculum. These modules are: Knowledge Discovery & Big Data Analytics, Cloud Infrastructure and Services and Information Storage & Management. As next step of their collaboration, APU and EMC have signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on April 23, 2014 to officially recognize APU as one of the participating institutions of EMC’s Academic Alliance (EAA) initiative. The signing ceremony took place in APU’s Auditorium 3, and was witnessed and celebrated by Cheam Tat Inn, Managing Director of EMC2 Malaysia, Krishna Kant, Head of EAA in South Asia, Russia & ANZ, Suman Saurav, PR & Communications Manager of EMC in South East Asia, Kamal Nawawi, Deputy Vice Chancellor of APU, Gurpardeep Singh, Vice President, Operations, APU, Peter Hoornaert, Dean: Faculty of Computing, Engineering and Technology, APU and Muhammad Ehsan Rana, Head of School, School of Computing and IT, APU.

Under this collaboration, APU will be a regional hub for EAA in Kuala Lumpur, where EMC’s faculty training programs, seminars and workshops will take place in APU’s facilities. Apart from that, as a part of EAA, EMC will also provide APU with instructor training, curriculum, teaching resources and course materials at no cost, to enable the institute with expertise and knowledge in line with the latest industry trends. “The IT industry is experiencing transformations. Importance of cloud computing, big data analytics and information analytics have increased. This has caused the IT industry to be competitive; thus, we have launched the EAA programme, which aims to prepare the next generation of IT professionals for careers in virtualized and cloud environment.”, says Cheam, in his presentation during the ceremony. “APU students are most welcomed to participate in this collaboration, as we offer course materials at no cost. Students are also most welcomed to join our Student Ambassador programme, to become the bridge between the student community and EMC in organizing student-centric events.”, says Kant, who were also present in the signing ceremony, to introduce the EAA initiative to attending students from APU.
