APU Student-athletes Eager For Success At SUKIPT 2022

On 9th August, APU’s senior leadership flagged off 45 student-athletes who are participating in eight different sports at the highly anticipated biannual inter-universities sports event, Sukan Institusi Pengajian Tinggi or SUKIPT 2022.

Organised by The Ministry of Higher Education, Malaysia, the event is scheduled to take place from August 11th – 21st 2022 at University Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI), Tanjung Malim, Perak.

During the flag-off ceremony, Prof. Dr. Ho Chin Kuan, the Vice Chancellor, gave words of encouragement to the sportsmen and sportswomen. Chief Operating Officer Mr Gurpardeep Singh and Sports Executive Mr Illangovan Thirumal are confident that their competitive spirit will bring them accolades.

Since 2012, SUKIPT has been organised by the MOHE, in collaboration with different Sports Councils of higher learning institutions - MASUM, MSP, MASKOM and MASISWA. 80 universities are participating in the games this year.

APU’s student-athletes will be competing in eight sports events held in two phases - badminton, karate & golf in Phase One; and athletics, chess, taekwondo, swimming, & table tennis in Phase Two.

According to Mr Illangovan, the contestants are well prepared as they have been training intensively for a few months now. While hoping to hear good news from all the athletes, the APU’s community wishes them all the best at SUKIPT 2022.
