FinTech Today 2.0: Unveiling the Future of Finance & Banking


Empowering students to navigate the ever-evolving landscape of finance and technology, FinTech Today 2.0.

Financial Technology (FinTech) students from Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation (APU) geared up for the future of banking and finance by exploring the world of FinTech at Auditorium 3.

Surrounded by like-minded peers and industry experts, they attended the FinTech Today 2.0, a recent event co-organised by Sustainable & Inclusive Finance (SIFU) and the APU AKPK Club to learn about the latest trends and developments in the FinTech business.

The event featured workshops by expert, a research presentation on the factors influencing the adoption of FinTech during Malaysia’s crisis and a poster presentation session on ‘The Roles of Digital Wealth in Promoting Sustainable Development Goals’ in the APU Postgraduate Meeting Room.

The President of the APU AKPK Club, Mr. Chin Thean Soo delivered the opening remarks, and reflected on the importance of knowing situations of potential scams, making the upcoming generation to be more aware.

The event then continued with a paper presentation titled ‘Factors Affecting Behavioural Intention in Adopting Mobile Money in Malaysia’ by Ling Vania Lois, and ‘The Behavioural Intention to Adopt Insurtech in Malaysia’ by Chan Pui Kei.

Dr Raja Rizal Iskandar Raja Hisham, a renowned methodology expert from University Utara Malaysia (UUM), provided invaluable feedback on the students’ final year projects (FYP), commending their strong research foundation and clear presentations.

In between the paper presentation session, Mr Kevin Neoh, a Financial Coach and Licensed Financial Planner, discussed the tricks of the trade in his session titled ‘SCAMdemics, Tricks or Treats’.

He equipped students with the knowledge to identify and avoid various scams, along with resources to report suspicious activity.

“Financial fraud occurs when someone takes money or other assets from you through deception or criminal activity in many ways.

“Phishing scams, APK app scams, job scams, phone scams, investment scams, Ponzi schemes, pyramid schemes, digital asset scams, clone firm scams, Macau scams, email scams, social media impersonation scams, love scams, deep fake scams, synthetic identity scams, online shopping scams, loan scams, debt collection scams, and credit card fraud are among the most common ways to defraud others,” he advised the audience.

At the same time, he suggested that anyone faced with such a scam situation should report it to the National Scam Response Center (NSRC), Securities Industry Dispute Resolution Center (SIDREC) or contact Smart Finance for assistance.

The event then moved on to Teong Zhi Rou’s presentation on ‘Factors Affecting User Satisfaction Towards E-Payment in Malaysia’ and Tan YiYang’s presentation on ‘Factors in Adopting Internet Banking During the Malaysian Crisis’.

The event reached its highlight as two of the participating groups (Groups 3 and 9) were crowned champions for the best poster presentation. SofTech360 Founder and CEO, Mr. Hafizullah Irfan and Tata Consultant, Ms. Isabella Farid lent their expertise as judges.

Bringing together a range of strengths, Group 3 included Jonison Lau Yik Tien, Niquita Chin Gee, Ham XiaoYing, Wong Jia Wei, and Tan Hui Yin while, Arun Elangoran, Harvind Punishotthaman, Muhad Raflis Abdul Azis, Lai Yee Mun, and Wong Yuk Tze joined Group 9 were crowned the best posters.

Ms Nur Lalua Rashidah Mohd. Rahsiad, Manager Corporate Affairs who is also the Advisor of the APU AKPK Club, concluded the FinTech Today 2.0 with words of wisdom, noting that scams are now an industry and recommending that these concerns be addressed not only in FinTech Today 2.0, but also among all APU students and ecosystems.

“Do not forget to explore the world and stay up-to-date with the current issues and technology,” she concluded.
