APU Triumphs at WPH Digital Hackathon Next Gen Revolution 2024



Team HireMe, which was made up of five APU students (L-R) - Foo Yau Yit, Teh Chen Ming, Tan An Ning (Team Leader), Puah Yi Kai, and Neo Mei Chi, bagged a cash prize when announced as the champion among competitors from ASEAN countries.

In a remarkable showcase of talent and innovation, HireMe, a team from the School of Computing (SoC) at Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation (APU), clinched the top spot at the WPH Digital Hackathon: Next Gen Revolution 2024.

The prestigious competition awarded the winning team a prize of USD 3,000, underscoring the importance of the challenges addressed and the innovative solutions proposed.

The School specially recognised the contribution of team lead Tan An Ning, a Bachelor of Computer Science (Hons) Intelligent Systems student, whose leadership and vision were pivotal in guiding the team to victory. Team members made up of Data Analytics students - Foo Yau Yit, Teh Chen Ming, Puah Yi Kai, and Neo Mei Chi, were also commended for their invaluable contributions to the project.

Organised by WPH Digital, a multi-disciplinary IT consulting and services company, which concluded on May 17, 2024, the hackathon aimed to tackle pressing recruitment challenges with creative solutions. The competition brought together some of the brightest minds in technology and human resources from Singapore, Malaysia, and the Philippines, all vying for the honorary title.


Announcing the Top winners – Malaysia represented by APU’s Team HireMe emerged as Champion.

Competing against formidable opponents, the HireMe team demonstrated exceptional skills in technology and human resources. Their project, HireSight, garnered attention for its innovative approach to human resources (HR) interviewing.

HireSight features “Eva”, an AI HR interviewer augmented with an AI copilot, designed to streamline and enhance the recruitment process with unprecedented efficiency and accuracy. Leveraging generative artificial intelligence (Gen AI) with large language models (LLM) technology, HireSight represented a significant advancement in HR interviewing tools, showcasing the ingenuity and forward-thinking mindset of APU students.

“We extend our heartfelt congratulations to the entire HireMe team for their exceptional performance and collaborative spirit,” said Ms Chong Mien May, Senior Lecturer at SoC who mentored the team.

This victory not only highlights the talent within SoC but also serves as an inspiration for aspiring innovators and technologists in our community. APU take great pride in the accomplishments of its students and look forward to celebrating many more achievements in the future.
