SoGHT Gains Valuable Insights on Hospitality and Careers at The Westin, Kuala Lumpur


The tour provided students with a first-hand look at the world of luxury hospitality, explored the hotel’s facilities and received in-depth explanations of various operational aspects.

The Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation’s (APU) School of Global Hospitality and Tourism (SoGHT) recently embarked on a fruitful study tour to the Westin, Kuala Lumpur.

Led by Senior Lecturer, Mr. Yeoh Tay Boon, students gained a comprehensive understanding of hotel operations and the future trajectory of the Marriott Hotel Group worldwide.

The tour provided students with a first-hand look at the world of luxury hospitality hosted by Mr. Rajesh Kanna (Hotel Manager), Mr. Naraina Samy (Director of Human Resources), and Mr. Christopher Khor (Senior Sales Manager), students explored the hotel’s facilities and received in-depth explanations of various operational aspects.

“The Westin, Kuala Lumpur, went a step further by offering valuable insights into internship opportunities and potential career paths for students.

“This aligns with the hotel’s philosophy of fostering professional development for its associates.

“Students also had the chance to connect and network with industry leaders, seeking valuable career advice,” said Mr. Yeoh.


An explanation about the daily hotel operations is being provided to the SoGHT students.

These interactions are crucial for students’ personal and professional growth, allowing them to build professional networks and gain clarity on their future career paths.

This educational visit served as an enriching experience for the students, providing them with the opportunity to learn from and network with hospitality industry leaders.

Such initiatives play a pivotal role in enhancing students’ educational journeys and preparing them for future endeavours in the dynamic fields of hospitality and tourism.

The visit was led by Mr. Yeoh Tay Boon and accompanied by other faculty members, Dr. Lazey Doma Bhutia and Mr. Shazeel Ali Sardar Ali.

Other participants included Usama Naveed, Maho Tomita, Kyoka Takahashi, Naraina Samy, Shayan Akhlaq, Fathimath Shaiha Shareef, Mariyam Samha Shareef, and Annamaria Valentina Rita.


SoGHT students also had the opportunity to dine at the Westin, Kuala Lumpur.
