Career Exploration Outreach at APU Enhancing Awareness of Career Counselling Services

The Asia Pacific University (APU) Counselling Unit recently organised a Career Exploration Outreach Event on campus, running over three consecutive Mondays—15th, 22nd, and 29th July 2024.

The event was led by APU intern counsellors, in collaboration with facilitators from IMU University, under the supervision of APU counsellors. The initiative aimed to increase awareness of the career counselling services available to students.

Students participated in career assessments and engaging therapeutic card activities at an open booth throughout the event. One of the key highlights was the RIASEC test, which helped students align their interests with potential career paths. Meanwhile, the therapeutic cards sparked insightful conversations about personal values and long-term goals.

The event received positive feedback from participants. "I found the booth helpful and worthwhile. I learned new things about my strengths and weaknesses, which supported and motivated me to continue with my planned future. I also discovered areas for self-improvement, which will help increase my job opportunities in the future. I walked away from the booth feeling more confident, informed, and satisfied," said Sinthu Padmanathan, a Foundation Studies student.

Ms Ng Shu Lin, a facilitator from IMU, commented on the event’s success, stating, "Many students are not fully aware of the benefits of career counselling services. This event gave us a great platform to communicate that, and it was encouraging to see students eager to explore their options through the assessments and activities."

The event effectively highlighted the wide range of counselling resources available at APU, offering students valuable support as they navigate their career exploration journey.

For ongoing support, students are encouraged to visit the Psychology Center on Level 6 for personalised consultations with counsellors.
