APU hosts Mental Health screening Programme in collaboration with The Pillars Malaysia

The School of Psychology (SoP) at Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation (APU), in collaboration with The Pillars Malaysia, held a successful mental health screening programme from 9th July 2024 to 10th July 2024.

Led by Ms Vinorra Shaker (Associate Head, SoP at APU) and supported by Ms Dhevaania C Gendsen (Lecturer, SoP at APU) and Ms Amirah Husna Mohamad Hata Abdullah (Psychology Lab Technician, SoP at APU), the programme aimed to raise mental health awareness, reduce stigma, and provide valuable insights to students and staff, aligning with Sustainable Development Goal 4 and 17 (SDG 4 and SDG 17).

Ms Vinorra and Ms Dhevaania are also part of APU DIGITAL under the GROW (Girls in Resilience and Overall Wellbeing) pillar.

The screenings were conducted by a team of qualified clinical psychologists from The Pillars Malaysia, who ensured a professional, confidential, and safe environment for all participants.

Additionally, the programme featured comprehensive and confidential questionnaires designed to assess various aspects of mental health, followed by in-depth, one-on-one discussions where psychologists provided personalised feedback.

This approach allowed participants to gain a clear understanding of their mental health status, receive tailored recommendations, and explore potential steps for improvement in a supportive and judgement-free setting.

The initiative drew a strong turnout from both APU students and staff, highlighting the growing recognition of mental well-being as a critical component of a thriving academic community.

APU’s dedicated support services, together with SoP, will remain committed to championing mental well-being, actively fostering a campus culture that prioritises the overall health, success, and resilience of its diverse community.
