A Fun-Filled Nature Adventure Unites Actuarial Science Students
On 28 September 2024, the APU Actuarial Science Club (ASC) embarked on an exciting bonding event, “Hi High Hike: A Nature Adventure”, held at Taman Botani Putrajaya. The event brought together 40 enthusiastic participants from various intakes and specialisations within the actuarial science programme.
The day kicked off with participants being divided into six teams, each led by a group person-in-charge, carefully selected from the ASC committee. To break the ice, participants introduced themselves and got to know one another through a fun round of Actuarial Science Bingo, a game that incorporated field-related questions and stirred up some friendly competition.

Next came three mini-games that tested both mental and physical agility. Teams competed in “7-up”, “Climb to the Top,” and “Blind Catch”—all designed to push reaction time, memory, and courage, while keeping the atmosphere lively and fun. After the games, participants enjoyed a much-needed break with delicious nasi lemak and Milo, recharging for the rest of the day.
The highlight of the event was the Nature Hunt. Participants scoured the park to find and photograph specific tree species and landmarks, earning points as they worked together with their group members. This activity not only brought out their teamwork but also allowed them to bond with fellow students in a natural, relaxed setting.
As the day drew to a close, the participants were rewarded with 100 Plus drinks and prizes for the top three teams. A group photo featuring the School of Mathematics, Actuarial and Quantitative Studies (SoMAQ) Senior Lecturer Ms Caryn Chuah, alongside the students and committee members, marked the end of this memorable event.
“Hi High Hike” was more than just a day out—it marked ASC’s first-ever out-of-school bonding event and proved to be a huge success. The participants left with stronger connections, a sense of camaraderie, and lasting memories from an unforgettable day of adventure.
