The APLC World Cultural Day 2026 at APU brought together over 300 international students for a vibrant celebration of global diversity through dhol drumming, flag parades, cultural dance competitions, an international fashion show, and hands-on workshops that allowed participants to build confidence and forge lasting cross-cultural friendships.

Imagine a single room where the resonant boom of Punjabi dhol drums blends with K-pop beats, where vibrant Kazakh embroidery shares the spotlight with traditional African garments, and where over 300 students from every corner of the globe dance as one.

At Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation (APU), this is not just an ideal — it is reality, as the world literally comes alive under one roof when the Asia Pacific Language Centre (APLC), the language arm of APU, transforms the campus into a dynamic international celebration of diversity, movement, and human connection.

During APLC World Cultural Day 2026, students gather from across the globe for an unforgettable day overflowing with music, colour, laughter, and authentic cultural exchange.

The festivities launch with an electrifying dhol performance that instantly sets a high-energy tone. Students proudly parade their national flags before taking the stage for a spectacular line-up of traditional and fusion showcases.

From Bollywood, African, Russian, and Arabic choreography to K-pop and J-pop routines, the multicultural dance competition demonstrates how distinct heritage can merge to create something entirely fresh. The creativity does not stop there.

Students engage in interactive cultural trivia, hands-on workshops, and a breathtaking diabolo performance by a talented APU student. Meanwhile, the much-anticipated International Fashion Show turns the stage into a dazzling runway of traditional attire from every continent.

For a full week leading up to the main event, students from every Intensive English Programme (IEP) level rehearse their catwalks, dance routines, and stage presence.

Behind the scenes, their teachers go all out — coaching, encouraging, rehearsing, and ensuring every student steps into the spotlight with total confidence.

What the audience sees on stage is the direct result of intense dedication and seamless teamwork between APLC educators and their students.

Judging the fashion show and dance competition is an esteemed panel representing APU’s APLC and the broader creative industry, including external head judge Mr Raymond Raj, a renowned entertainer and model.

The main celebration reaches an emotional climax as hundreds of voices harmonise for a moving rendition of ‘We Are the World’, followed by the official prize-giving ceremony and a commemorative group photography session that captures the vibrant spirit of the day.

Yet the learning continues long after the stage lights go down as participants dive into a hands-on Kazakh Traditional Art Workshop led by Summer Camp student Zhansaya Dyussekova, giving attendees the opportunity to explore Kazakhstan’s rich heritage through an immersive artistic experience.

For APLC, World Cultural Day is far more than an annual event on the calendar. It serves as a vital extension of classroom learning, where real-world communication, personal confidence, and global perspective intersect seamlessly.

Ms Haryati Mohd. Amran How, Event Organiser and Senior Lecturer at APLC, highlights that the core aim is active participation rather than passive observation. 

“We do not want students to just watch culture from a distance,” she explains. 

“We want them to step into it, perform it, share it, and experience it together. Seeing them transition from nervous rehearsals to confidently owning the stage is the most rewarding part of the entire event.”

Ms Nur Nazrin Hadia Zakaria, Co-organiser and Lecturer at APLC, points out that the real beauty lies in the relationships formed along the way.

“The most beautiful part is watching strangers become friends,” she says. 

“They come to represent their own countries, but somewhere along the line, they start cheering just as loudly for everyone else. That is when we know the true spirit of World Cultural Day has taken root.”

Ms Sharen Kaur, Senior Manager of APLC, emphasizes the deeper educational value of the gathering.

“If our students leave today knowing only one new dance, outfit, or dish, we have missed the point.

“We want them to leave with a new friend whose home country they might not have even been able to locate on a map yesterday. That is an education you simply cannot print in a textbook.”

She adds that, “Google can show you the world in seconds, but it cannot make the world sit beside you, dance with you, and become your friend. That is precisely what happens here today.”

For many participants, the occasion offers an invaluable perspective that no digital screen can replicate.

Ang Hyunjun from Korea describes the celebration as an eye-opening journey, while Muta Takabatake from Japan thrives on the energetic performances and colourful runway displays.

Iana Karisova from Russia highlights the joy of uncovering distinct traditions while forging lasting bonds. 

Similarly, Kwon So Yeon and Kim Riwon from Korea express their appreciation for seeing classmates proudly showcase their own roots while whole-heartedly embracing others.

APLC World Cultural Day 2026 reminds us that cultural exchange goes beyond celebrating our differences — it is about discovering how much we truly share, while demonstrating APLC’s unwavering commitment to cultivating meaningful educational experiences beyond traditional classrooms, strengthening global awareness, self-assurance, and lifelong international connections.

Because, ultimately, the best way to understand the world is not by reading about it. It is by meeting it face-to-face. Together, we celebrate our differences. Together, we build one global community.
